Kuniko Tsurita's THe SKy Is Blue with a Single Cloud and THE PROBLEM OF THE WOMAN ARTIST (Video Essay)In Professor James Bloom's Introduction to Art History course, I researched a significant but lesser-known figure in the history of manga: Garo Magazine's sole female regular, Kuniko Tsurita. For my final project, I put together a video essay comparing her more recent recognition to a similar tokenizing view of Renaissance painter Sofonisba Anguissola, both artists discussed as unique and important for the simple fact of their being a woman and not their actual talent and intellectual content. Though completed last year, I felt the content relevant enough to include in its own separate blog post. Apologies in advance for the low quality of my microphone. Enjoy!
